I’ll be conducting a workshop on three consecutive Saturdays in April focused entirely on peer critiquing of ideas and texts. It will be at my absolute favorite of the venues I’ve taught it in over the years, the comfortable art studio at the Brazosport Center for the Arts and Science in Clute. On April 5, 12 and 19 we’ll meet from 9:30 till 3:30, taking a short lunch break and you are invited to bring a sack lunch an join in whatever will be chatting about (probably writing).
I hope to see you there with some of your pages to critique or just an idea for a story you’ve been pondering and want some input from folks who are writers (and constant fellow ponderers). Here’s the information from the Center (bcfas.org):
In this interactive workshop, writers of all skill levels will receive critiques of their story ideas and/or first draft manuscripts by Ron and the other members of the group. Participants will finish the workshop with an abundance of ideas and new, useful tactics to plan effectively and write clearly. Teachers looking for ways to improve students’ planning and writing will benefit greatly from this workshop as well; some school districts count this as Inservice credit. The number of pages presented by each participant will depend on the size of the group, and almost all the time will be spent critiquing. This allows participants to learn from the hits and misses in each other’s writing, including suggestions for different word choices and more effective ways to tell their unique stories.
Get ready to share what you’re working on…fiction, nonfiction, memoir, verse or just an idea you’re considering working into a story or book (no major profanity, politics or proselytizing please). Bring double-spaced, typed pages in 12 pt. font on the first day for critiquing. Show up ready to listen, learn and participate!
Space is limited to 20 participants. Ages 18+ only. We will take a mid-day break to eat lunch and “talk shop”, so feel free to bring something to eat and drink. Registration is open now at the Center, online or by phone (979/265-7661). Registration is $100 for BCAF members and $125 for non-members.
