Story Building: A Three Day Creative Writing Workshop
I will be conducting my first in-house writing workshop since the pandemic at the Brazosport Center for the Arts and Sciences in Brazosport on Friday, March 1st through Sunday, March 3rd (9:00 to 3:00 on Friday and Saturday; 2:00 to 5:00 on Sunday). There will be a brief lunch break on the first two days and participants are invited to bring sack lunches or run out to pick up something. The Center is located in front of Brazosport College at 400 College Boulevard in Clute (77531). The cost is $100.00 for members of the Center and $125.00 for nonmembers. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Register at the Center or by calling 979:265-7661. Maximum enrollment will be twenty participants.
Story Building will be a deep dive into what makes good stories work, be they short stories, novels, memoirs, scripts, or works of nonfiction. From the effective employment of literary elements to weaving episodes together with a specific overall theme, participants will benefit from clear instruction and abundant examples and will be invited and encouraged to share their writing plans, learning from the interactions of people with the common goal of telling their story clearly and well. Beginning with a tried and true blueprint that successful storytellers have followed forever, I will share the techniques good writers employ in both fiction and nonfiction, and show how to work them into participant’s unique projects. Whether it’s something you’ve been tinkering with for a while or something you’ve only been considering, Story Building will be an upbeat, instructive and fun experience.
Also, Karen and I will be in Beaumont soon for an event at Lamar University. We’re looking forward to it and hope to see you if you’re in that area.
