Back to Basics: Effective Storytelling

A four-session workshop at The Brazosport Center for the Arts & Sciences. In-house or via Zoom!

I’ll be conducting this workshop that will run from 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM on Sundays for four weeks, starting September 10th, and is open to all levels of writers ages 16 and up. Registration is $100 for Brazosport Fine Arts Council members and $125 for non-members. Register online or call the Center at 979-265-7661. If you’re an NFL or MLB fan (like me) and are concerned about missing games, here’s the good news: you can record those and skip the commercials when viewing.

Participants will learn to improve their storytelling skills whether they intend to write a memoir, some poetry, a song (of the ballad variety), teach a better lesson, give a more interesting sermon or speech, or maybe tackle penning the elusive Great American Novel (I’ve taken my stab at it several times; it’s your turn). Because there will be time allotted for nonmandatory peer critiquing of some texts, this will also be an excellent workshop for anyone already writing something and might need to revisit essential literary elements and get some feedback regarding their project’s plot, characterization and narrative flow.

Everybody has a story to tell. Maybe it’s time to tell yours.

I hope to see you soon, either in person or via Zoom.
